Engineered

Carbon-Carrier Pods are biodegradable, non-toxic particles manufactured at CETI in Leilé, France on one of the lowest-carbon electricity grids in the world. Micronutrients are bound within the fibre matrix as stable, non-dispersing oxides that are insoluble in seawater.

Deployed

Once in the ocean, the Carbon-Carrier Pods capture carbon within a contained environment, drawing down atmospheric CO₂ through photosynthesis. After approximately 18 days floating at the surface, the pods rapidly sink, carrying the captured carbon to the deep ocean.

Sequestered

Within months of reaching depth, the Carbon-Carrier Pods biodegrade due to their cellulose composition. This ensures that the carbon exported to depth remains sequestered in deep ocean sediment for centuries while the carrier itself leaves no trace.

Unlike Ocean Fertilization (OF), MCFS does not add iron, other nutrients, or any chemical inputs directly into the surface ocean. MCFS binds stable micronutrient oxides inside the Carbon-Carrier Pods to create a targeted and controlled environment for microalgae cultivation before sinking to depth. Similar to Biomass Sinking (BMS), in MCFS there is no biological manipulation or bloom risk, only controlled carbon fixation and export.

MCFS does not add iron, nutrients, or any chemical stimulants to ocean water. OIF works by accelerating phytoplankton growth; Carbon-Carrier Pods are passive physical objects that sink under gravity. There is no biological manipulation, no bloom risk, and no analogous regulatory concern.
